About the Nosara Schools

Escuelita de Nosara uses the classrooms at Santa Marta Elementary School.


There are approximately 100 children attending Santa Marta School in grades kinder through 6th and approx. 260 children attending the Nosara School. Each of the nearby villages have their own small elementary school.The school year begins at the start of February and ends in early December. Sixth graders must pass a standardized national test to be admitted to the high school.

Nosara High School (Colegio) is located a short distance from Nosara Centro, in the village of Santa Teresita. The curriculum consists of classes in Spanish grammar, Math, Civics, Social Studies,Chemistry, Physics, Biology, English (ESL) French, Computer, Music, Plastic and Industrial Arts, Religion, Home Ec and Physical Education. There are approximately 160 students from Nosara and the surrounding communities.

Student population is predominantly Costa Rican with a few Nicaraguan, German, Dutch, Swiss and North American children attending full time or for part of the year.
